Luxury Wedding Planner FAQs
Do I need a wedding planner?
Luxury weddings are usually multi-day events, with events hosted at more than one venue and with guests travelling in from other regions or countries. The logistical arrangements can be all-encompassing, just to organise the guests. So, even if you are happy to choose your own dress, florist, stationery, photographer, videographer, cake company, DJ, live musicians etc before the wedding, there is a huge amount more to think about. You'll want to be able to enjoy the wedding celebrations, not be running around with a mobile phone and clipboard. When you speak to wedding planners they will be the first to say that they would always book a professional planner to look after arrangements on the day (and that means being on top of arrangements in the run up to the wedding too), so you should do the same. Some luxury wedding venues make it a requirement that couples must use a wedding planner, as they have seen the impact of couples trying to manage without one.
How much does a wedding planner cost?
The cost of a wedding planner will vary depending on experience, location, and services offered. Some charge a flat fee, others a percentage of the total wedding budget (usually 10–20%), and some offer hourly rates or customisable packages.
My venue has their own planner, so do I need my own planner too?
If you are hosting a relatively small wedding, you are happy sourcing suppliers yourself, and are relaxed about how the day will run, an in-house wedding planner can be all that you'll need. The venue's in-house planner will usually assist you with supplier recommendations, they'll ensure suppliers can access the venue on the morning of the event and keep the day running smoothly in terms of event logistics, such as serving drinks and food. However, that is usually where their responsibilities end, so many venues refer to their in-house planner as a wedding coordinator, rather than planner.
When should I hire a wedding planner?
Ideally, you should hire a wedding planner early in the planning process - usually before you've book your venue (about 12 to 18 months before the wedding is ideal). This is especially important if you want full-service planning. However, some planners offer partial planning services or on the day coordination if you’re further along in the planning process.
