Can I Legally get Married in Oman?

Generally speaking, it would be easier to formally tie the knot in the UK and then have a celebratory ceremony in Oman. There's many luxurious venues you can do this at, including the Ritz-Carlton and Six Senses Zighy Bay. However, if you are still intent on marrying in Oman, then these are the appropriate steps you need to take:
  1. Contact the relevant local authorities in Oman to work out exactly what documents you will need to formally wed.
  2. There are no civil marriages in Oman, however, it is still possible to get married via a religious ceremony.
  3. You may be required to swear an affidavit or oath beforehand which you can do at the British embassy in Muscat.
  4. Therefore, you should book a meeting at the embassy and download and complete an affidavit form which you should take to the appointment, as well as the other documents listed below.
  5. If, for whatever reason, you cannot get married in a church or mosque, it may be possible for you to wed in the British Embassy in Muscat. For this to be possible, you and your partner will have to be residents in Oman and you will have to prove (through documentation) that you are unable to wed in a church or mosque.
If you are ever in doubt, get into contact with your relevant embassy for the most recent information regarding the correct documents and time scales as these things can change.
