Can I Legally get Married in The Seychelles?

The Seychelles has a lot to offer in terms of destinations and venues. Mahé is very popular as it has venues like the MAIA Luxury Resort and Fregate Private Island. It is not particularly difficult to marry in the Seychelles, you just need to make sure you follow all the rules and regulations appropriately to ensure there are no hiccups on the special day:
  1. One thing to bear in mind straight away is that to wed in the Seychelles, you have to have both a religious and a civil ceremony for it to be rendered legal.
  2. To organise the wedding, you need to contact the Civil Status Office on the island of Mahé at the minimum 11 days before your wedding. If you apply for a special marriage licence (more expensive), you can let the Civil Status Office know about your plans 2 days before. You will have to send them all the relevant documents (listed below).
  3. The actual wedding itself does not have to happen on the island of Mahé.
  4. So that you and your partner have enough time, we generally recommend contacting the officials in Mahe about 2 months beforehand to confirm all the details are in place. If in any doubt, contact them directly or your relevant embassy for the most recent advice.
Bear in mind weddings get more expensive the further away they are from Mahé. In addition, weddings taking place at 5pm on a weekday or anytime on a weekend are more expensive.
