The Langham London:

Opened in 1865, this was one of Europe’s first Grand Hotels. It sits at 1c Portland Place at the top of Regent Street in central London, and its history of hosting celebrated guests includes Oscar Wilde and Ouida, both of whom stayed here. That heritage of generous, attentive hospitality runs through every aspect of the hotel today, and it shapes the wedding experience as much as the event spaces themselves.

The hotel offers 20 wedding venues across 2,184 square metres of event space. The range is genuinely unique. Couples can choose a grand ceremony for 275 guests in the Grade II listed Ballroom, an intimate dinner for 12 in a private dining room, an informal pub celebration in The Wigmore, or a summer reception in the Courtyard Garden. All event spaces are licensed for civil ceremonies. As a result, every stage of the wedding day can take place within the same building.

The Grand Ballroom and Courtyard Garden

The Grand Ballroom is the centrepiece. It is Grade II listed, beautifully restored with soft cream and gold hues, 19.6-foot ceilings and Murano glass chandeliers. It holds up to 275 guests for a ceremony, 375 for a reception and 250 for a seated dinner. The draped windows open onto a terrace overlooking the Courtyard Garden below.

The Portland Foyer connects directly to the Ballroom and adds capacity for a further 110 ceremony guests, 250 reception guests or 120 for dinner. Together, the Ballroom and Foyer create a self-contained suite for larger celebrations.

The Courtyard Garden is one of the oldest private gardens in the West End. It is south-facing, holds up to 220 guests and is available during the summer months in conjunction with a Ballroom wedding. In addition, it is one of very few genuinely private outdoor spaces available for weddings in central London.

Intimate and Alternative Spaces

The hotel also offers several spaces for smaller or less formal celebrations.

The Surrey and Phaeton rooms each hold 50 for a ceremony and 40 or 24 for dinner, and suit intimate weddings or family celebrations. Palm Court, the hotel’s art-deco Afternoon Tea space, connects directly to the Ballroom and holds 150 for a reception and 85 for dinner. Artesian, the hotel’s celebrated cocktail bar designed by the late David Collins, suits evening receptions and late-night celebrations. Furthermore, The Wigmore pub, with its main bar, Green Room and Snug all available for exclusive hire, suits couples who want something distinctly informal and British for part of the day.

Catering and Dining

Menus at The Langham London are overseen by two Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr. Private Dining by Roux blends classic French cuisine with contemporary cooking, and menus are tailored to each couple. The kitchen also works with leading Kosher and Asian caterers when requested, which makes the hotel a strong option for multicultural and Jewish weddings.

Sauce, the hotel’s cookery space, is available for bridal showers, pre-wedding events and interactive group experiences. Chuan Body + Soul, the hotel spa, incorporates Traditional Chinese Medicine principles and offers pre-wedding treatments for the wedding party. It also has a 16-metre indoor pool and fully equipped gym.

Sustainability

The Langham London holds EarthCheck certification. It uses seasonal, locally sourced produce and sustainable seafood throughout. It is the first hotel in Europe to operate the Orca food waste management system, which transforms food waste into safe water within 24 hours. For couples who want their celebration to reflect environmental values, these credentials are worth noting.

Is The Langham London Right for Your Wedding?

The Langham suits couples planning a luxury London wedding where heritage, culinary excellence and the breadth of spaces matter. The combination of the Grade II listed Ballroom, the Courtyard Garden, the private dining rooms and The Wigmore means it is one of the few hotels in London that can host a grand affair and an intimate dinner within the same building. In addition, the all-ceremony licence across all spaces and the Michel Roux Jr. menus are difficult to match elsewhere.

However, it is not suited to couples wanting a countryside setting, an exclusive use property or a venue outside a working hotel environment. As a full-service hotel, events run alongside wider hotel operations.
