The Goring:

In the same family since it opened in 1910, this is London’s only family-owned five-star hotel. It sits on Beeston Place in Belgravia, a short walk from Buckingham Palace and Victoria station. That family ownership shapes the hotel in a way that distinguishes it from the larger group-owned properties nearby. The service carries a warmth and personal quality that is hard to recreate at scale. The Daily Telegraph has described the hotel’s staff as the industry’s finest.

For weddings, the hotel is fully licensed to host ceremonies and civil partnerships in any of its private rooms. The Michelin-starred Dining Room provides the culinary foundation for every wedding breakfast. Menus follow the seasons and draw on the finest available ingredients. In addition, the hotel’s proximity to Westminster Cathedral, St Peter’s in Eton Square and St Michael’s in Chester Square makes it well placed for couples who want a church ceremony followed by a reception at the hotel.

The Event Rooms

The Garden Room is the principal wedding space. It is the largest private room in the hotel. A sliding glass wall opens directly onto the private garden, making it a strong choice for summer weddings where the celebration can continue outdoors. It seats up to 44 guests for a wedding breakfast and holds up to 100 for a standing reception.

The Silver Room carries its own history. Winston Churchill hosted meetings here, and the antique dining table suits intimate dinners and smaller wedding celebrations well. The Drawing Room holds up to 12 guests and captures the character of a grand English home, with pristine silverware and personalised menus as standard. The Boardroom sits on the fourth floor and suits private pre or post-wedding gatherings for up to eight guests.

Together the rooms cover celebrations from 8 to 100 guests. In each case, the same standard of service applies throughout.

Dining and Afternoon Tea

The Goring’s Dining Room holds a Michelin star. The culinary team works with couples to develop seasonal menus that reflect their preferences. Dishes have included lobster thermidor canapés and Cornish cod with champagne and caviar sauce. The Veranda suits pre-wedding gatherings, post-ceremony teas and bridal party celebrations with its celebrated afternoon tea service and relaxed setting.

Accommodation

The hotel has 69 bedrooms and suites. The Goring Suite is the hotel’s flagship accommodation and is often chosen by couples for the wedding night. Guests staying in the suites have the sense of being in a private house rather than a hotel, which reflects the family ownership that runs through everything here. Kate Middleton stayed at the hotel the night before her wedding to Prince William, which says something about the hotel’s understanding of what a significant occasion requires.

Is The Goring Right for Your Wedding?

The Goring suits couples planning an intimate, personal London wedding where the quality of the service, the cooking and the setting are all of equal importance. The family ownership, the Michelin-starred kitchen, the private garden and the Belgravia location make it one of the most distinctive options among London’s smaller five-star wedding venues. It is particularly well suited to couples who want a day that feels private and personal rather than grand and formal.

It is not the right choice for large weddings above 100 guests or couples wanting a grand ballroom. As a smaller hotel, availability is limited and early enquiry is advisable.
