The Dorchester:
Opening on Park Lane in 1931, this is one of London’s most celebrated addresses for weddings. The hotel sits on Park Lane overlooking Hyde Park in the heart of Mayfair, and in the decades since it opened it has become one of the most recognised addresses for weddings, private celebrations and grand occasions in the world. The list of illustrious guests and celebrated events is long and well documented.
What distinguishes The Dorchester as a wedding venue is the combination of scale and detail. The Ballroom is one of the great Art Deco spaces in London, with a private Park Lane entrance, over 10,000 square feet of floor space, a crystal cage chandelier and a listed white gold leaf ceiling. It holds up to 500 for a seated dinner and 1,000 for a cocktail reception. At the other end of the scale, the Penthouse and Pavilion, decorated by stage designer Oliver Messel to evoke the enchanted forest from Sleeping Beauty, accommodates up to 34 guests for a civil ceremony and wedding breakfast, with a private terrace and views over Mayfair. In between, six further spaces offer every configuration a wedding might require. As a result, The Dorchester works as well for an intimate ceremony of 30 as for a grand reception of 1,000.
The Wedding Spaces
The Ballroom is the centrepiece. Its private entrance directly from Park Lane, the Crush Hall reception rooms, the Silver and Gold rooms and its Art Deco detailing make it one of the most impressive ballroom wedding venues in the capital. It holds up to 500 for dinner and up to 1,000 for a standing reception. A late licence runs until 1am, with the possibility of extending to 3am.
The Orchid Room is a Wedgwood-inspired space with high decorative ceilings and crystal chandeliers. It holds up to 120 for a seated dinner and suits mid-sized receptions and wedding breakfasts with a more intimate character than the Ballroom.
The Holford Room offers a warm and relaxed atmosphere, with a traditional fireplace and oak-panelled walls. It holds up to 60 for dinner and 100 standing. Moreover, it connects directly to the Orchid Room, which means the two spaces can work together for larger celebrations.
The Crystal Suite is the most contemporary space in the hotel. Large windows look directly over Hyde Park. It also features a grand sweeping staircase and a Liberace mirrored piano. It holds up to 70 for dinner and 120 standing.
The Park Suite is accessed from The Promenade, the heart of the hotel, and overlooks Hyde Park. It holds up to 60 for dinner and suits smaller ceremonies, pre-wedding dinners or post-wedding gatherings.
The Penthouse and Pavilion is the most distinctive space of all. Designed by Oliver Messel to evoke the enchanted forest from Sleeping Beauty, this interconnected suite has a private terrace with views over Mayfair and the London skyline. It holds up to 34 guests for a civil ceremony and wedding breakfast and is licensed for weddings.
Together, five of the spaces are licensed for weddings for up to 432 guests, with the full Ballroom configuration accommodating up to 1,000 for a standing reception.
In-House Services
The Dorchester provides an in-house floristry team, hair stylists, in-house AV support and a world-renowned spa. Bespoke wedding menus are created by the culinary director and sommelier, working directly with each couple. There is no standard package imposed on every wedding. In addition, a complimentary suite is provided on the wedding night for all bookings.
For couples celebrating across multiple days, restaurants including The Grill and China Tang can be exclusively hired for rehearsal dinners, post-wedding breakfasts or wider celebration events.
Is The Dorchester Right for Your Wedding?
The Dorchester suits couples planning a luxury London wedding where the reputation of the address, the scale of the spaces and the quality of in-house service are central to the brief. The Park Lane location, the Art Deco ballroom, the Oliver Messel suite and the breadth of spaces from 34 to 1,000 guests give it a versatility that very few London hotels can match. Furthermore, the late licence, in-house floristry and complimentary suite mean the practical elements of the day are handled entirely within one building.
It is not the venue for couples wanting a countryside setting, an exclusive use property or a more intimate boutique experience. As one of London’s grandest working hotels, The Dorchester operates multiple events and services simultaneously. However, the scale of its event spaces means private, self-contained celebrations are entirely achievable within the building.
