Intimacy, Discretion and a Quieter Expression of Luxury
As part of our coverage of the Table Design Exhibition, Creativity Conference 2025 in Istanbul, we spoke with Danielle Nay about her installation, A Very English Elopement, and her experience creating work for the exhibition.
Rather than focusing on scale or spectacle, Danielle’s concept explored intimacy, discretion and the emotional depth of small, highly considered celebrations. Drawing on her experience producing private elopements and intimate weddings across the UK and Europe, the installation reflected a growing shift within the luxury market – where atmosphere, craft and personal meaning increasingly take precedence over guest numbers.
Below, Danielle shares her experience and creative perspective in her own words.
A Very English Elopement
By Danielle Nay, Istanbul, December 2025
An ode to history, beauty, and quiet rebellion. Because not every love story needs 300 guests to feel real.
A Jewel Box Celebration for Two
Generously invited to the Table Design Exhibition as a featured event designer, I imagined a jewel box celebration for two, set within a folly in the grounds of an English stately home. The concept draws on the romance of the Grand Tour and the tiny, meticulously crafted elopements I have produced in historic properties across the UK and Europe. These are celebrations where intimacy, craft and atmosphere take precedence over scale.

Designing for Discretion
Many of the clients I work with value discretion above all else. Their weddings and events are intentionally under the radar. They are private, considered, and shaped by personal meaning rather than public spectacle. That sensibility sits at the heart of this project.
A Layered, Candlelit World
The vignette unfolds in a candlelit space, layered with extravagant floral artistry by my creative partner, Jamie Aston. An installation of ten thousand roses fills the air with fragrance. Curated antiques confer a sense of history and lived-in grace. A small, flower-decked wedding boat drifts across a projected lake, guiding the eye toward a pineapple-crested country castle. This imagined setting becomes the source of the furniture and tablescape treasures.

Subtle Luxury and Sensory Detail
This is a love story of escape and intimacy, with an implicit afterglow. Subtle reflective elements reference the exhibition’s wider Sparkles of Nature theme. Mirrored surfaces echo sunlight on water. Metallic embroidery and delicately placed gemstones, including Swarovski-encrusted napkin rings, heighten the sense of luxury.

A dreamy wedding menu is presented in an antique frame. Its carving is subtly inspired by the late-Ottoman wooden mansions found on the Turkish island of Büyükada. Every detail is informed by my experience producing high-end, intimate weddings and elopements. Scenic styling, soundscaping, world-class gastronomy and technical integration all contribute to an atmosphere that feels effortless and natural.

Istanbul as a Stage for Exceptional Events
It was an immense honour to take part in the Table Design Exhibition and Creativity Conference alongside so many inspiring industry leaders. Istanbul continues to evolve as a world-class stage for exceptional events. The city offers extraordinary properties, outstanding artisans and a depth of service defined by genuine hospitality. It is a city I enthusiastically continue to recommend to clients considering weddings and incentive journeys alike.
What This Perspective Reveals About Luxury Wedding Design
Danielle’s reflection offers a clear insight into how luxury wedding design is evolving – towards quieter confidence, emotional storytelling and deeply personal experiences. It also echoes wider conversations at this year’s Table Design Exhibition, where intimacy, cultural reference and considered restraint emerged as recurring themes across both design and discussion. A Very English Elopement sits comfortably within that wider shift, reflecting a move towards quieter confidence and deeply personal design at the higher end of the market.
