South Asian weddings are operationally complicated. They are multi-day, multi-event celebrations that often involve 300 to 800+ guests, specialist catering requirements, religious ceremonies, large production builds and carefully coordinated guest logistics.
When families are travelling from both the UK and South Asia, destinations must therefore offer more than visual appeal. Above all, they need scale, infrastructure and flexibility.

Below is our guide to destinations that consistently work well for large-scale South Asian weddings. We developed it in collaboration with Radhika & You, a UK-based planner who specialises in South Asian destination weddings, drawing on first-hand experience planning multi-day celebrations across Europe and the Middle East.
United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah)
Why it works at scale
The UAE is purpose-built for large-format events. Five-star hotels regularly host gala dinners, conferences and weddings exceeding 500 guests. Ceiling heights, ballroom layouts and production access are designed for elaborate staging.
Typical capacity range
300 to 1,000+ guests, depending on property.
Travel accessibility
Extensive direct flights from London, Manchester and other UK cities, as well as strong direct connectivity from Delhi, Mumbai and other major South Asian hubs.
Catering and dietary considerations
Most luxury hotels either employ experienced South Asian chefs or permit approved external Indian catering. Similarly, venues widely accommodate vegetarian kitchens, Jain menus and region-specific cuisine.
Operational considerations
- Outdoor events are seasonal (best November to March).
- Fire ceremony permissions are generally manageable within hotel settings.
- Production teams are experienced with baraats and multi-event schedules.
Best suited to
Couples prioritising scale, reliability and established infrastructure with minimal regulatory friction.
The UAE is a great choice for a South Asian wedding because the level of service, luxury, hospitality is exceptional and possibilities are endless. My advice is to embrace what the destination does brilliantly rather than trying to recreate a wedding you could have anywhere else. Use the setting, the hotels and the incredible hospitality to create an experience that feels genuinely special for your guests.

South of France (French Riviera)
Why it works at scale
Grand Riviera hotels can host multi-day celebrations with large receptions with exclusive use. The region supports high production values and destination-level exclusivity.
Typical capacity range
250 to 500 guests in the large hotels (villa-only weddings are usually smaller).
Travel accessibility
Nice Airport offers strong UK connections and global options via Paris and other European hubs.
Catering and dietary considerations
External South Asian catering is typically required. Dedicated vegetarian kitchen facilities vary by property and must be confirmed in advance.
Operational considerations
- Sound curfews are common and strictly enforced.
- Fire ceremony permissions vary by municipality.
- Full hotel buyouts are often necessary for multi-day flexibility.
Best suited to
Couples seeking European glamour with large guest counts, supported by experienced planning and production teams.
What I love about planning a South Asian wedding in France is finding the balance between the grandeur couples want and the realities of working within the city. Historic properties and city venues can come with very specific access, production and timing restrictions and the local South Asian supplier market isn’t as extensive as you might find in the UK or other destinations. That often means bringing in trusted specialists where needed and building a strong local team around them. For us, it’s about working creatively within those parameters rather than allowing them to dictate the experience.

Portugal (Algarve and Lisbon Region)

Why it works at scale
Portugal offers resort infrastructure combined with more flexible event regulations than some neighbouring countries. Large outdoor lawns and ballroom spaces allow for high guest numbers.
Typical capacity range
300 to 600 guests in major resorts and purpose-built event venues.
Travel accessibility
Short-haul from the UK. International flights via Lisbon for guests traveling from South Asia.
Catering and dietary considerations
External Indian catering is widely used for large South Asian weddings in Portugal. Many venues allow bespoke marquee builds, enabling custom kitchen arrangements.

Operational considerations
- Late-night music permissions vary by venue but are often more flexible than in parts of France.
- Marquee structures may require municipal approval.
Best suited to
Couples wanting a European setting with comparatively manageable logistics and strong value at higher guest volumes.

One of the things that really stands out to me about Portugal is how well the local infrastructure works for South Asian weddings. There is now a strong network of local suppliers who understand the requirements of Indian weddings, from catering and production through to working with venues on multi-day celebrations. That means couples can bring in a planning specialist from their home destination, but also use capable local suppliers in the destination to deliver the wedding celebrations.

Turkey (Bodrum, Antalya and Istanbul)

Why it works at scale
Turkey combines large resort complexes with city-based grandeur. Both resort regions and Istanbul are accustomed to high-capacity events.
Typical capacity range
400 to 800+ guests in major resorts and large Istanbul hotels.
Travel accessibility
Direct UK flights to Bodrum and Antalya seasonally, with year-round flights to Istanbul. Strong international connectivity.
Catering and dietary considerations
External South Asian caterers are frequently used. Large hotels are familiar with hosting culturally specific weddings.
Operational considerations
- Resort buyouts allow guest centralisation.
- Istanbul venues may have stricter production regulations depending on heritage status.
- Sound restrictions vary by property.
Best suited to
Couples wanting large-scale production, high guest counts and a balance between resort immersion and city spectacle.

The decision really comes down to the overall guest experience. Bodrum and Antalya work beautifully for a resort buyout, particularly for multi-day South Asian weddings where guests can stay together, relax and enjoy the destination between events.
Radhika & You
Istanbul offers something completely different – grand hotels, incredible architecture and city vibes. I look at the couple’s guest numbers, budget, number of events, their vision, the settings they envision and how much of the destination they want their guests to experience before recommending the right fit.
Bahrain
Why it works at scale
Bahrain’s luxury hotels are designed with expansive ballrooms capable of hosting large events. The country has longstanding experience hosting South Asian weddings.
Typical capacity range
400 to 800 guests in major five-star properties.
Travel accessibility
Direct connections to the UK and strong regional links across the Gulf. Good accessibility for guests travelling from India.
Catering and dietary considerations
Established South Asian catering presence. Vegetarian and regional cuisine requirements are well understood.
Operational considerations
- Fire ceremony permissions should be confirmed with individual properties.
- Ballroom-focused celebrations are common.
Best suited to
Couples seeking Middle Eastern infrastructure with slightly less saturation than Dubai.
Bahrain is incredibly welcoming to South Asian weddings and works very well for the requirements of a South Asian wedding. One thing couples may not realise is how much of the planning comes down to the finer logistical details – access times, setup requirements, supplier movements and how different elements of a wedding are coordinated with the venue can all be quite different to what couples are used to in the UK. These are the things you often only appreciate once you’re on the ground, which is why strong local coordination with suppliers and your planner is so important.

Egypt offers a mix of grand city ballrooms and large coastal resorts capable of handling substantial guest numbers.

Travel accessibility
Direct UK routes to Cairo and seasonal routes to Red Sea destinations. International options via major European and Middle Eastern hubs.

Regional distinctions
Cairo offers large ballroom capacities and gala-scale production capability.
Marassi provides a modern, Mediterranean setting with adaptable event spaces.
Red Sea resorts allow guest centralisation and multi-day buyouts.
Operational considerations

Couples prioritising ballroom scale, coastal resort immersion or dramatic architectural backdrops at competitive pricing.

Sri Lanka
Why it works at scale
Sri Lanka combines cultural familiarity with luxury resort infrastructure, making it operationally aligned with South Asian traditions.
Typical capacity range
300 to 600+ guests in major Colombo and coastal hotels.
Travel accessibility
Direct and one-stop routes from the UK. Strong regional connectivity from India.
Catering and dietary considerations
South Asian cuisine expertise is embedded within the hospitality industry, reducing reliance on imported teams.
Operational considerations
- Weather patterns vary by coast and season.
- Resort buyouts are often necessary for large multi-day events.
Best suited to
Couples seeking cultural alignment, catering authenticity and resort-style guest centralisation.
Sri Lanka’s familiarity with South Asian traditions can be a real advantage when planning a wedding there. From the food and hospitality to the cultural understanding, there’s a natural familiarity with many of the elements that are important to South Asian couples, while the destination itself offers a very different and beautiful setting for a multi-day celebration.

Greece

Why it works at scale
Greece offers a mix of luxury resorts, private estates and beachfront venues, combining world-class settings with strong Greek hospitality. It works well for couples seeking a stylish European destination with a relaxed yet elevated feel.
Typical capacity range
50 to 250 guests at island venues, with larger resorts and mainland properties accommodating 300+ guests.
Travel accessibility
Direct flights from the UK to islands, with Athens providing year-round international connectivity for both UK, USA and international couples.
Catering and dietary considerations
Properties are experienced with international weddings and dietary requirements. External South Asian catering is possible in some resorts, some only allow internal catering and some allow external catering companies and chefs to work in their kitchen.

Operational considerations
● Island logistics require careful planning around accommodation, transfers (flights and ferries) and suppliers.
● Wind conditions and sound restrictions should be considered for outdoor events.
Best suited to
For couples looking for a luxury wedding experience in the Mediterranean with stunning settings, multi-day celebrations and memorable guest experiences.

Having planned weddings extensively across Greece, my biggest advice is to fall in love with the venue, but check the logistics before you commit and especially if on an Island.
Radhika & You
Greek islands can be incredibly beautiful, but a South Asian wedding often requires a level of production and logistics that a venue may not be used to.
Access, guest transfers, accommodation, supplier travel and production can have a much bigger impact than couples realise, so we always establish what is genuinely possible.
Italy
Why it works at scale
Italy offers iconic luxury venues, historic villas and five-star resorts with exceptional scenery and timeless elegance.
Typical capacity range
50 to 200 guests in many properties.
Travel accessibility
Strong international connectivity with direct UK flights. Regional transfers may require additional planning depending on the venue location.
Catering and dietary considerations
Italian venues are experienced with international weddings and luxury events. External South Asian catering is possible in Italy at some venues but requires confirmation due to restrictions on suppliers and kitchen access.
Operational considerations
● Many historic venues have restrictions on production, lighting and sound levels.
● Guest transfers can be complex for remote locations.
● Weather planning is important for outdoor celebrations.
Best suited to
It is ideal for couples looking for a romantic destination wedding with idyllic backdrops, luxury hospitality and strong cultural and culinary appeal.
Some of Italy’s venues often come with production, lighting and sound restrictions, but that doesn’t mean compromising on atmosphere. We work closely with the venue and production team from the outset, understanding the parameters and finding creative ways to achieve the impact and energy a South Asian celebration needs.
Radhika & You
Morocco
Why it works at scale
Morocco offers a unique blend of luxury resorts, palaces, riads and desert venues, combining rich cultural heritage with exceptional visual impact. It’s well suited to multi-day celebrations.
Typical capacity range
100 to 300 guests at luxury resorts and private estates.
Travel accessibility
Direct flights available from the UK to Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat and Casablanca, with strong international connections.
Catering and dietary considerations
Morocco has strong experience with international weddings and can accommodate diverse dietary requirements. South Asian catering options should be planned in advance with the property and if they can cater internally and if they allow external catering teams and chefs to work in their kitchen.
Operational considerations
● Venue buyouts work well for guest accommodation and multi-day celebrations.
● Outdoor events need careful planning around temperature wind and seasonal conditions.
● Considerations for sound limits from venues need to be taken into account when planning.
Best suited to
Couples looking for a luxury destination that combines authentic cultural charm with exceptional hospitality and unforgettable multi-day celebrations.
Morocco feels completely different because the destination itself becomes such an important part of the wedding experience.
Radhika & You
The architecture, colours, food, music and incredible hospitality create an atmosphere that feels naturally rich and immersive.
For a South Asian wedding, there’s also something really special about bringing two cultures together in a setting that feels so distinctive.
How to Assess a Destination for a South Asian Wedding

When planning a South Asian destination wedding, couples and planners should assess:
- Maximum seated ballroom capacity
- Ceiling height and production load access
- External catering permissions
- Dedicated kitchen facilities
- Fire ceremony allowances
- Sound curfews
- On-site accommodation volume
- Direct flight connectivity from both the UK and South Asia
The most successful large-scale South Asian weddings abroad are those planned in destinations that combine cultural understanding with operational infrastructure.
