The Vineyard:
Set in the Berkshire countryside near Newbury, The Vineyard is one of the few hotel wedding venues in southern England where the food and wine are as central to the day as the setting itself. The hotel holds 3 AA Rosettes, is a member of Relais & Châteaux and PoB Hotels and holds a Michelin Key. Its wine cellar holds 30,000 bottles, and the Head Sommelier works alongside Executive Chef Tom Scade to develop wedding menus and pairings for each couple. Scade trained under John Williams MBE at The Ritz London and won the UK finals of the prestigious Le Taittinger Prix Culinaire in 2018.
The hotel has 49 bedrooms and can be taken on an exclusive use basis, giving couples and their guests the entire property for the duration of their stay. For those who do not need exclusive use, four further wedding formats are available, from the Iconic five-course celebration to an Elopement package for two guests. As a result, The Vineyard works for celebrations ranging from two guests to a full property takeover, all with the same standard of food and service throughout.
Wedding Formats
The Vineyard offers five named wedding formats, each with a dedicated planner and a complimentary menu tasting included.
Exclusive Use gives couples the entire hotel for the celebration. This includes dinner the night before with close family and friends, pre-ceremony spa treatments, all 49 bedrooms, a bespoke wedding breakfast in the California Suite or The Vineyard restaurant, a reception on the marble dancefloor and the couple’s first night in a Grand Suite. It is one of the more complete exclusive use packages available at a five-star hotel within easy reach of London.
The Iconic Wedding is the most expansive package without exclusive use. It includes a five-course wedding breakfast, champagne, canapés, homemade petit fours, a professional stationery package and the couple’s first night in a Grand Suite.
The Classic Wedding includes a choice of ceremony room, a three-course wedding breakfast and fish and chip cones during the evening reception. Private dancing runs until midnight.
The Intimate Wedding suits celebrations of up to 30 guests. It includes a ceremony room, a Prosecco reception and a three-course wedding breakfast paired with wines.
The Elopement package is for the couple and up to two guests. It is followed by a choice of afternoon tea or a five-course tasting menu paired with wines, and a night in an Atrium Suite.
Catering and Wine
Tom Scade’s menus draw on classical French technique with a focus on the finest seasonal ingredients. The Head Sommelier creates bespoke wine pairings for each wedding menu, drawing on the 30,000 bottle cellar. A complimentary menu tasting is included with every wedding format. In addition, The Vineyard has 25 years of experience delivering weddings and the kitchen and front-of-house teams have the depth to handle both intimate and larger celebrations with the same level of care.
Accommodation
The hotel has 49 bedrooms across several categories including Grand Suites, Luxury Suites, Deluxe Suites and Atrium Suites. Each suite is individually furnished. The Grand Suite is reserved for the couple on the wedding night across all packages. Dog-friendly rooms are also available for couples wanting to include their pets in the wedding stay.
Spa and Facilities
The Vineyard Spa is available for pre-wedding treatments and is included as part of the Exclusive Use package. The spa suits both the couple and the wedding party in the hours before the ceremony. In addition, the hotel’s manicured lawns, gardens and grounds provide strong settings for photography throughout the day.
Is The Vineyard Right for Your Wedding?
The Vineyard suits couples for whom the quality of food and wine is central to the wedding experience. The Relais & Châteaux membership, the 3 AA Rosettes, the Le Taittinger-winning chef and the 30,000 bottle cellar collectively make it one of the most food-focused five-star wedding venues outside London. The range of formats from an elopement to a full exclusive use takeover gives it a flexibility that few comparable countryside hotels offer.
However, it is not suited to couples wanting a grand ballroom, a large marquee wedding or an urban setting. The Vineyard works best when the food, wine and intimacy of the countryside experience are what the couple is specifically seeking.
