We recently had the pleasure of visiting the breathtaking East coast of Australia. Here's everything you need to know about getting married there, the best time of year for a wedding, the legalities and what the regions offer.
What time of year should I get married?
December to February are the perfect months to experience the famous warm summers of the Southern East coast. As you travel North and enter the tropics, the best time to visit is the Australian winter between June and August. At this time the temperatures still soar, but there is no tropical rainfall to ruin your celebration.
Which region should I get married in?
We love Australia as a wedding destination due to its amazing natural scenery, as well as the incredible city destinations available to visit.
Victoria
Victoria offers the Great Ocean Road, which is famous due to its incredible beach views along the coast, as well as beautiful inland countryside. The Lake House in Daylesford is located inland and offers breathtaking waterfront views as the backdrop for your ceremony and reception. In addition, Victoria offers a selection of stunning vineyard venues for your celebration.
New South Wales
New South Wales is another firm favourite, with fabulous weather in the Australian summer. There are endless beachfront venues available along the coast, our favourite area being Byron Bay. Byron Bay is located north of Sydney and is known for its relaxed vibe and beautiful beaches, this makes it a firm favourite among locals and travellers for tying the knot.
Queensland
If you’d rather wed during the UK summer months, the best area to visit is Queensland. This area is in the tropics, therefore the Australian winter is the best time to avoid the rain but still experience summer temperatures. The Lizard Island Resort is located off the coast of Cairns on Lizard Island and offers panoramic ocean views for your celebration. Above all, the island is a wildlife haven with the Great Barrier Reef on your doorstep.
Here's a list of all of the venues we cover in Australia:
- Lake House, Victoria
- Saffire Freycinet, Tasmania
- Lizard Island Resort, Queensland
- Como The Treasury, Western Australia
- Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, New South Wales
- Qualia, Queensland
- Park Hyatt Sydney, New South Wales
The legalities
Getting married in Australia is relatively easy and doesn't require too much time or paperwork. For more information on the legalities click here or visit gov.uk.
Honeymoons
Following your wedding in Australia, you are well located to explore more of this amazing country for your honeymoon. The East coast offers diverse scenery with beaches, cities and the rainforest. Why not make the most of being on the other side of the world and road trip from Victoria to Queensland? If you’re tighter for time, chose an area that offers both scenery and city such as Sydney, with a few days in Byron Bay to unwind after the excitement of your wedding day.
